ADVOCACY
CAMPAIGN PROJECTS
BE SWAG. STOP THE SWEGG! is composed of several projects that will help address the injustices experienced by the Lumad people.
HUSTISYA PARA SA KAUGMAONG LUMAD BAYANIHAN PROJECT.
One way to resolve the injustices against the natives is to stop the Lumad killings. To achieve this, we, The Lumad Rights, have come up with an advocacy project that aims to lessen the cases of killings. This project will be called the HKL Bayanihan project. HKL stands for Hustisya para sa Kaugmaong Lumad. The main content of this advocacy project would be vlogs showcasing inspirational Lumad story videos, experiences of Lumads in their local community, the beauty of the tradition and cultural heritage of the Lumad people, and the like. The people behind this advocacy would like to emphasize that this project will utilize social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more.
Social media is useful nowadays because people are stuck inside their homes. The only way they can connect to other people is through social media, and speaking of social media, it forms connections with people throughout the world. It is so diverse that other people can make and get more profit from creating vlogs and posts, be it individually or by groups according to interest, ethnicity, gender, religion, and the like. With this, the advocates will be using social media platforms to raise awareness of situations the Lumad people have been throughout for many years. In this way, Filipinos can recognize and promote Lumad identity as part of the indigenous peoples or IPs and empower them since they are also citizens of our country. Added to the criteria would be the effective use of hashtags, such as #StopLumadKillings #SaveOurSchools and #DefendAncestralLands, in every video caption. Moreover, promotional advocacy videos made by our very own Lumad people will be posted on YouTube, TikTok, and other social media platforms. This initiative will serve as information dissemination and public awareness and pave the way for fundraising. If there are any donations from generous individuals, all collected funds will go to the ID system and other proper implementations. With the help of social media and its wider reach, more and more people will become aware of these very concerning issues. Hence, there will be a chance that someone of a higher position in the government will reach out to the clamor for change for the Lumad people and other indigenous groups and help the researchers organize and implement more projects in the future in service of our neighbors and for the common good.
SOCIAL MEDIA UTLIZATION.
IDENTIFICATION CARD SYSTEM.
As stated in the previous paragraph, The Lumad Rights also aims to produce and distribute identification cards (IDs) to every member of the Lumad tribe to certify and prove that they are not part of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army or the CPP-NPA. In conformance to the Data Privacy Act, the proponents will need consent and cooperation from local government units (LGUs) to collect relevant information and include them in their IDs without committing invasion of privacy crimes.
